THR is a CCPS developed monitoring system that detects corrosion in structural cabling. Such cabling is present in many civil constructions, such as dams, bridges and other large concrete structures. It is often costly, intensive and destructive to determine the state of health of these cables after installation.
Today THR is installed in hydro electric dams, providing insight on post-tensioned cables strengthening concrete structures. It has been retro-fitted into existing infrastructure. The sensors communicate over RS-485 to negate the effect of electrical noise in generator environments. By using RS-485, the THR is capable of interfacing with a range of SCADA products – including Campbell Scientific’s equipment.
